Mapping and scanning the environment for areas where you can
be of help to the local population and thereby reap electoral dividends is
something which only astute politicians can do. The J&K floods are a
colossal tragedy, and by any estimate, some thousands must have died and
millions marooned or displaced. The Air Force and the Army are rightfully doing
a yeoman’s job by helping the local Kashmiri populace and in mitigating their
suffering.
The BJP must seize this opportunity. This is a god-given
opportunity to bring the estranged Kashmiri population back to the mainstream
of Indian national life and thereby get some relief also for the hapless and
displaced Kashmiri pundits. Separatism and terrorism have gripped Kashmiri life
for over three decades now and kashmiris now have also to deal with nature’s
fury in the form of the worst floods in the state since the last 60 or so odd
years.
The BJP/RSS must galvanise its cadres across India to reach
Kashmir by the thousands and help in the rescue and relief operations. The
BJP/RSS must start campaigns and drives all across the country to collect
relief material in the form of every day essential goods for the troubled
Kashmiris and transport them via land or air. The Omar Abdullah govt has lost
the initiative in providing relief and the BJP/RSS must step in to provide
relief to every displaced Kashmiri and stranded tourists in the state.
Where the Army and Air Force have failed to reach, the
BJP/RSS cadres must reach by boats and rubber dinghies and provide essential
goods to the population and also spread the message of Indian-ness and create
goodwill for the BJP/RSS. Five to Six national level politicians of the BJP,
senior RSS pracharaks and some dozen J&K BJP leaders must prominently be
available and seen providing relief operations and giving motivating speeches.
This has to be done immediately while the suffering is there so that relief can
be provided to the stricken and the BJP/RSS can gain the goodwill of the local
population.
The BJP/RSS in the process must also ensure that the
displaced Kashmiri pundits get adequate compensation and land to return to
their home state. It must be impressed upon the Kashmiris that calamity can
strike everyone at any time and it is in the best interest for them to show
allegiance to India, have a brotherly approach with their Pundit brothers and shun violence and
terrorism. This message must go out fast and pronto before the Kashmir flood
waters recede and the Kashmiri separatists revert to their old nasty ways.
