The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) is a space telescope specifically designed to conduct infrared astronomy. Its high-resolution and high-sensitivity instruments allow it to view objects too old, distant, or faint for the Hubble Space Telescope. This enables investigations across many fields of astronomy and cosmology, such as observation of the first stars and the formation of the first galaxies, and detailed atmospheric characterization of potentially habitable exoplanets. The U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) led Webb's design and development and partnered with two main agencies: the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Canadian Space Agency (CSA). The NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) in Maryland managed telescope development, while the Space Telescope Science Institute in Baltimore on the Homewood Campus of Johns Hopkins University operates Webb. The primary contractor for the project was Northrop Grumman. The telescope is named after James E. Webb, who was the administrator of NASA from 1961 to 1968 during the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo programs.

+INDIA ACCELERATING+

(A PUBLIC INTEREST INITIATIVE BLOG ON INDIA STRATEGIC GOVERNANCE, ECONOMY AND SECURITY)

SUBMITTED BY:

KANISHKA GUPTA, EDITOR-IN-CHIEF AND PRINCIPAL ADMINISTRATOR OF +INDIA ACCELERATING+ (aka AGRASAR BHARAT) BLOG

PUBLIC INTEREST CAMPAIGN WRITER AND STRATEGIC AFFAIRS BLOGGER

Date: December 22, 2020

Premise: Politics, as in life, is all about the correct and the right use of the human intellect. Reason and objectivity are the enablers in this endeavour. With the correct use of the human mind faculties like thinking, emotions, imagination, perception, discrimination, analysis, insights and foresights, what one conceives can be achieved.

Project Title: Setting out the administrative systems, management processes and governing models for implementing the Indian vision, enabling purposeful action and effective decision-making by the political class, and inspiring dynamism and positivity in the Indian nation’s psyche.

In Defense of the Political Class: While 99.8% people shun active political participation in India, it is only a few thousands of people who show the courage for active participation. It is pertinent to add that the Indian political leadership is extremely brave and courageous, has a deep driving desire to work for the public and the nation’s good, has a moral conscience to discharge their duties diligently, are largely honest and competent, and all they need is a gentle nudge in the right direction through honest, selfless, fearless and well-meaning counsel so as to clear their confusion and steer them towards clarity and purposeful speech, behaviour and action.

Background: In the early 1980s and subsequently, one noticed several governing shortcomings in India, which has led to lopsided development, inequality in wealth generation, collapse of the civic administration, deteriorating law and order problems, inability of the government to efficiently administer organisations under its control, alarming rise of insurgencies and internal conflicts in 20% of India’s landmass, inability to negotiate with key foreign countries of the world on key issues from a position of strength and mutual respect, all leading to the conclusion that the Indian political leadership has not been nourished with the critical minimum mass of knowledge and information, lacks access to good, honest and fearless counsel and thus lacks confidence and direction.

Goal: To propel India’s growth as a vibrant economic, political, military, technological and intellectual power in the global arena.

Objectives: To evolve the intellectual systems and governing models in the state arms for the effective functioning of the country; to motivate millions of brilliant Indian minds towards a common purpose; to move towards and create an environment of probity in public life; to develop long-term planning and a strategic culture in the government both at the national and state level.

Beneficiaries (Target Group): Political leadership (parliamentarians, legislators, councillors), Indian public, and bureaucrats.

Targets & Activities: Principal administrator (KANISHKA GUPTA) of the public interest initiative '+INDIA ACCELERATING+' will write on an average one blog post every month on 8-10 current issues and topics (1,500-2,500 words) which will be analytical, incisive and suggesting best possible solutions and way forward.

Schedule: Principal administrator will write one post every month after deep thinking, analysis and insights, extensive reading, and research.

Organisation: +INDIA ACCELERATING+ is a public interest blog dedicated to applying mental faculties for the good of the country and the betterment of the countrymen. The coat of arms of +INDIA ACCELERATING+ is crossed designer swords and the blazing yellow sun. The swords guard righteousness and truth and symbolise strength while the sun is life-giving, dispels darkness and illuminates the mind.

Cost & Benefit Analysis:

Local costs per month

  • Books & Periodicals
  • Travelling
  • Outstation Boarding/Lodging
  • Laptop, mobile, internet, electricity, printouts
  • SOHO costs
  • Subscriptions/Paid social media plans
  • Family Maintenance Allowance

The project is on an ongoing basis. It is expected that in time, the systems, models and processes would be well established and thereafter the country would be in auto-mode being governed by balanced, mature, qualified and well-read political leaders requiring only critical judgmental intervention where discrimination is required in case of a crisis.

How do Beneficiaries Benefit: By sound concepts, advise, solutions, programmes for effective governance

Justification: Currently India’s political leadership is not receiving unbiased, fearless counsel and the advise is often clouded with preconceived ideas, fear, self interest and is foggy in nature. This blog will provide clarity in thought and purpose, and all counsel will be guided by reason and objectivity.

Monitoring: This will be done through self monitoring by prinicipal administrator and the funding agency or donor.

Reporting: Reporting will be done to the principal donor and three selected public figures (to be appointed by the funding/donor agency) once every month.

Past efforts: In the last 28 years, KANISHKA GUPTA has conducted over 35 public interest writing campaigns directed at 70 top political leaders of India, over seven hundred members of the Lok Sabha (lower house of Indian parliament) and the Rajya Sabha (Upper house of Indian Parliament) from different political parties like the Indian National Congress, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and several national level political parties and to top political leaders like Dr Shankar Dayal Sharma, Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Smt Vasundhara Raje Scindia, Shri Madhav Rao Scindia, Smt Sonia Gandhi, Shri L K Advani, Shri Narendra Modi, Shri Venkaiah Naidu, Shri Nitin Gadkari among others; 40 major Indian media publishers, and 45 top Indian industrialists and over a dozen socio-political organisations.

Contributions: My analysis and actions suggested have contributed significantly to India’s general administration, defence and foreign policies under both the NDA/UPA governments in the last 28 years.
