Making loud noises about Hindu Rashtra and Ram Rajya will not serve a fruitful purpose in the long run. True, Lord Ram and Lord Krishna are India’s iconic and cult figures in statecraft, divinity and as warriors. But what use is a Hindu Rashtra if Hindus continue to remain fragmented, weak and divisive? Let India remain a secular nation in letter and spirit were Hindus are a strong, unified and mentally and physically tough people. We should overcome our self-created barriers of caste, creed, regional and linguistic faultlines and focus on the commonalities which all Hindus have. This will serve the purpose in a better way. The proponents of Hindutva should focus on unifying, strengthening and toughening the Hindu society and psyche.
In the minds of most people, Hindu religion is a vague concept. Eighty per cent of urban Hindus and at least 60 per cent of rural Hindus have no real clue about their Hindu religion. This is because Hindu religion is so complex and complicated. In the age of 2-minute reads, 5-minutes videos and one page synopsis, a Bhagwat katha or Ram Katha of 7-14 days is passé and doesn’t quite gel with the youth and the general populace. The proponents of Hindutva must simplify and give Hinduism a sharp focus. A Bhagwat or Ram Katha should be condensed in a 3-hour sermon encapsulating the essence of the scriptures in simple language for the common man to understand. The essential teachings of the Vedas, Puranas, Sanhitas, Upanishads, Ramayan, Bhagwat Geeta should be condensed into a maximum 150-200 page book in simple language. Short 4-5 minutes videos on the essence of these scriptures should be uploaded on YouTube. Our honourable learned saints should bring out the essence of our scriptures in 1-2 page keeping the current situation in mind.Dharmo Rakshati Rakshitah | धर्मो रक्षति रक्षितः | Dharma protects the protector. +INDIA ACCELERATING+ (aka अग्रसर भारत) is a public interest blog on India's strategic governance, economy, and security. Modiji Going Great Guns But Hindu Religion Needs A Sharp Focus and Hindu Society A Radical Overhaul
In the months preceding the Lok Sabha 2014 elections, there was a big question mark on India’s stability, internal security situation and the fact that the then government in power lacked a cohesive strategy to propel India’s forward momentum. It was under these circumstances that Indians rallied behind Modiji and brought him to power in 2014. Not that Indians are against a viable Congress-led opposition, but the brand of politics which Congress espouses---one of victimisation of opposition leaders, persecution of a large section of the majority, inability to contain violent incidents in the form of several bomb blasts and terrorist attacks---were principal factors that the masses threw their weight behind Modiji and the BJP.
There is general consensus on the streets that Modiji has effectively dealt with terrorist activities and has brought a semblance of order in a largely fragmented society. People want the RSS-backed BJP to come back to power in 2024. Indians want security of life, livelihood, a government that is largely honest and a leader whose intent and motive is to do good for the country. These were the reasons why Modiji was brought back to power for a second term in 2019. PM Modiji has to a large extent certainly fulfilled these expectations and aspirations of the masses. A people’s man to the core, Modiji has his pulse on the masses and combines his convincing oratory with actionable work at the ground level.
Opening bank accounts for tens of crores of people, direct transfer of subsidy in the form of cash, creating a open defecation-free India, the movement towards a clean India, are some of the basic achievements of the Modi government. This has been made possible by genuine intent, good motives and a will to serve the people. Modiji is perceived to be a honest man who has the country’s best interests in heart and mind. This is one of the key reasons why there is no opposition internally and externally to Modiji’s leadership. A man who has quickly learned the ways of governance and to keep his flock together, Modiji has neutralised his weaknesses and has emphasised his strengths in a short span of time. This is the hallmark of a true marketer.
By fulfilling promises one by one in the BJP manifesto, Modiji has sky rocketed his credibility in the eyes of the public. India wants a leader with credibility and honesty and Modiji certainly fits the bill for 2019-2024. The bhoomi pujan ceremony of the Ram Temple on August 5 is a case in point. Faith and belief have finally triumphed over litigations and disputes. Indian Muslims should be sensitive to Hindu sentiments. In the 600 years of Mughal rule, barring a few Muslim emperors like Akbar the Great, nearly 40,000 Hindu temples were demolished and over 100 million Hindus died either defending their faith or fighting for sovereignty in undivided India. The simple-minded Hindus just have a small demand: after Ayodhya give them rights over Mathura and Kashi too. Nothing more.
Here it is important to point out that the acquisition of
Mathura and Kashi should be by consensus, without any demolition, violence and
bloodshed. The lobby representing Hindus should be representative of all major
political parties and Hindu organisations and should put their humble proposal
before the Muslim brethren for favourable consideration. If you approach the
Muslim brethren in a decent and respectful way, most Muslims I am sure will consider
the request favourably and acquiese to the Hindu demands. For this to happen,
all Hindus in the country irrespective of ideology, caste or political lines
should be a stakeholder. Muslims should not be viewed through a prism of bias
as Indian Muslims also have compassion and understanding too.
