The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) is a space telescope specifically designed to conduct infrared astronomy. Its high-resolution and high-sensitivity instruments allow it to view objects too old, distant, or faint for the Hubble Space Telescope. This enables investigations across many fields of astronomy and cosmology, such as observation of the first stars and the formation of the first galaxies, and detailed atmospheric characterization of potentially habitable exoplanets. The U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) led Webb's design and development and partnered with two main agencies: the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Canadian Space Agency (CSA). The NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) in Maryland managed telescope development, while the Space Telescope Science Institute in Baltimore on the Homewood Campus of Johns Hopkins University operates Webb. The primary contractor for the project was Northrop Grumman. The telescope is named after James E. Webb, who was the administrator of NASA from 1961 to 1968 during the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo programs.

Consider Having A Global Annual 2-Week Lockdown! See The Upside!!!

Every crisis or catastrophe has an upside to it. You just have to see things another way! The global lockdown due to COVID-19 pandemic has shown most of us a side to life which we often neglected or refused to see. Whatsapp groups are full of messages from children, housewives and working adults on how this has brought a semblance of balance and equilibrium in their lives.

Aircrafts, trains, ships, inland boats, buses, cars, scooters and mobikes have come to a halt. Fuel consumption has fallen drastically and road fatalities no doubt have come to almost zero. Highways and arterial roads, not mentioning neighbourhood streets have become deserted. Traffic has disappeared and so has the much-maligned pollution.

Working adults in the services and manufacturing sector have got a break from their hectic schedules. They are now spending quality time with their families. Parents are mingling with their children and elders of the house and indulging in intimate conversations. Relationships within the family have improved. After all, life is all about fulfilling conversations and relationships.

Industries and factories have come to a halt. The overworked machines and assembly lines are now at a standstill. Capital good machines and small machines are getting a much-needed break. This is also a time when factory owners can service and fix their assembly lines. The mass movement of workers from their homes to the factories have come to a halt.

The most profound impact has been on the environment. Trees and bushes in the parks have found a new flavour and flowers are blooming. New species of birds and animals can be found in in the neighbourhood gardens. Rivers, ponds and lakes are rejuvenating with fresh water and bio life is flourishing. Nature is healing and so is human life.

From Jalandhar, a town in North India’s Punjab province for the first time in a generation you can see the snow-capped peaks of the Dauladhar mountain ranges. An exotic avian reptile was sighted atop a church in Rome. Peacocks were found dancing with their plume in majestic glory in downtown Mumbai. Birds can be heard chirping and flying in joy.

COVID-19 pandemic has given humanity a much-needed break. From their hectic daily schedules, people now have time in their hands. They can think, feel and imagine. This is a time for fine artists like dancers, singers, writers, sculptors, painters, lyricists, film-makers, cartoonists, etc to hone their skills and develop their creativity.

All this has come at a heavy cost to humanity. Millions have been infected by the coronavirus and tens of thousands have died.  In tribute to this major sacrifice of humanity, governments across the world in conjunction with the United Nations should consider declaring three weeks annually as a pandemic lockdown. Heal the world, heal nature, heal humanity!!!
