The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) is a space telescope specifically designed to conduct infrared astronomy. Its high-resolution and high-sensitivity instruments allow it to view objects too old, distant, or faint for the Hubble Space Telescope. This enables investigations across many fields of astronomy and cosmology, such as observation of the first stars and the formation of the first galaxies, and detailed atmospheric characterization of potentially habitable exoplanets. The U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) led Webb's design and development and partnered with two main agencies: the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Canadian Space Agency (CSA). The NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) in Maryland managed telescope development, while the Space Telescope Science Institute in Baltimore on the Homewood Campus of Johns Hopkins University operates Webb. The primary contractor for the project was Northrop Grumman. The telescope is named after James E. Webb, who was the administrator of NASA from 1961 to 1968 during the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo programs.

Martial Arts and Adventure Sports Are A Nation's Guts and Nerves

India has historically been a martial country and Indians a martial race. It was during the conquests of India by the Mughals and the Britishers  that the innate Indian spirit for adventure and manly sports was doused as the colonisers did not want an assertive colonised polity. It is in this light that Honble PM Modiji has done the right thing by clearing an ordinance on Jallikattu (bull taming sport popular in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu). The state had witnessed a week-long protest to lift the ban on the sport considered a symbol of Tamil pride. Taking the cue from Jallikattu, Karnataka too wants the ban lifted on Kambala (buffalo race).

Why are traditional adventure sports and martial arts so very important for a country and its people. Participating in adventure sports and martial arts symbolises the grit, courage, sportsman spirit, physical fitness and mental toughness, mass participation which is good for the development of the youth and instill in them a fighting spirit and a sense of camaraderie and community togetherness. These adventure sports and martial arts are held in an atmosphere of festivities and are thus also instrumental in keeping the native customs alive. The Indian Union and the state governments must do everything within their powers to rejuvenate and resuscitate India’s traditional adventure sports and martial arts and bring them in the mainstream of India’s rural and urban life.
