BJP Manifesto: 10 Guiding Principles
Life is a highway of lanes and thoughts, and therefore, one must choose his lane and thoughts carefully. The BJP has come a long way since the times of Hegdewar, Golwalkar and the Jan Sangh. Evolution of thoughts and behavior are essential elements for survival and success.
Charles Darwin, the famous evolutionary scientist said the species which survives is not the strongest or the fastest, but the one which adapts and changes according to the times, circumstances and situations. The willingness to change and adapt is not a sign of weakness, but shows strength of character. Ultimately, it is the moral character of a nation, its people and its leaders which will ensure decisive behavior leading to decisive actions for the good of the country. When all actions are taken keeping the supreme interests of the country in mind, the nation progresses. Backing these actions are clarity in thought and purpose, courage of conviction, indomitable spirit and the will to succeed. The political class of a country starting from the councilors, the legislators and the parliamentarians are chiefly instrumental in deciding the direction a country takes and in ensuring its success. The political class is the primary section of society which sets the agenda for the country at the municipal, state, national and international level. It need not be emphasized that it is for this reason that the political class needs to be chosen very, very carefully after doing due diligence. Identification of potential electoral candidates must start 18-24 months in advance so that the party can do a thorough background check and ascertain the suitability of the candidate for national service. The most important factors for choosing a candidate is his moral character, his integrity, his vision which must override the winnability factor. If you want to build the nation in the long term, then choosing the right candidate is far more important than choosing a winnable candidate.
WHY BJP SHOULD NOT BE ULTRA RIGHT? The BJP leadership should work for all Indians irrespective of faith, region and caste. India, unlike many homogenous countries, is primarily a heterogenous country and is best compared to the European Union or the US. Talent and merit is available and can be identified not just within the majority community but also within the minority communities. The dangers of ultra nationalism is that it will alienate the minorities and will cause dissensions and disgruntlement within the minorities which could adversely affect the peaceful fabric of a society. The Japanese say that ‘harmony’ is a more important aspect for the success of a nation and a corporation. We must learn from them. Further, ultra nationalism could create delusions of fake grandeur and supremacy leading to one upmanship which need not necessarily be in the best interest of the society. Since God created all mankind and life in equality in different species, seeing the same God in every life is paramount.
WHY THE CONCEPT OF HINDU RASHTRA IS FLAWED? Agree, India is predominantly a Hindu majoritarian nation who constitute 80 per cent of the country’s population. But Hindus are horribly and tragically divided by race, caste, language, customs and region. Of what use is a Hindu Rashtra where the majority is hopelessly divided and fragmented. In the metropolitan areas, nearly 70 per cent of Hindus do not participate in their religious activities and in urban areas 50 per cent do not do so. The need of the hour is to unify, consolidate and create a strong sense of brotherhood amongst all Hindus. Contrast this with the Muslims, Christians and Sikhs who all have a strong sense of brotherhood and bonding and practice the rituals and practices of their religions on a daily basis. Over the next 20-30 years, RSS/BJP should focus on strengthening Hindu society, eliminating the faultlines within the Hindu society and creating a strong sense of brotherhood and bonding amongst all Hindus.
WHAT IS THE PRIME MINISTER’S DHARMA? When a promising candidate is elected by the people and selected by the party to be a PM, then this candidate ceases to be of a particular religion or region and consequently by default represents the interests of all Indian and all religions within. The PM is first and foremost an Indian, then of a region and then of his religion. It is the PM’s responsibility to ensure that in all his audio and video presentations, he promotes the country first where his promotion is secondary. The PM must not wear his religion on his sleeve, but keep it a personal and private affair. At the national level, his speech and actions must carry all Indians together and must reassure them that the PM acts in the best interests of all Indians. That is the only way to take India forward. For instance, if Yogi was to be declared the next PM candidate, then he would and must shed his bhagwa clothes and dress as per his predecessor, Modi. Visits to temples of all faiths once every year, should be on the itinerary of every BJP PM-elect.
